- From San Francisco, take Highway 101 north for 32 miles. Take the Highway 116 West exit.
(Note: You will come to the Highway 116 East exit at Petaluma. Continue north to the West exit.)
The blue-line day trip on this map refers to Highway 116 as Gravenstein Highway from here north. - Stop for a photo of the historical Llano Road Roadhouse at 4353 Gravenstein Highway. Sebastopol Flea Market, a great country swap meet, at 2200 Gravenstein Highway is open on weekends. The Hardcore Espresso stand is on your left/west side at Bloomfield Road.

When you come into the town of Sebastopol, at the intersection of Highway 116 and Highway 12, turn left/west onto Highway 12.
There are fruit stands, coffee stops and nurseries along this meandering, scenic route that will take you to the coast.
- You'll pass through the little town of Bodega. Stop at antique and curio shops along the highway. Visit St. Theresa's Church and Potter School, featured in scenes from Alfred Hitchcock's classic movie, The Birds.

Highway 12 ends at the intersection with Highway 1. Turn right on Highway 1, to Bodega Bay. Before you get to town, Look for the left turn sign to Doran Beach, a long, sunny sandspit where you can swim, birdwatch or walk the dog.
- Bodega Bay restaurants along the highway serve fresh catch and local oysters. Browse the waterfront shops.
- At the end of town, turn left to take the circular road around the back of the bay. Enjoy birdwatching on the mud flats.

Just before you wind uphill at Bodega Head, turn left into the parking area and make the short hike down to the hidden cove for a swim.

Follow the road up onto Bodega Head. Numerous hiking trails offer great views of Bodega Bay and the coast. You can sight whales from the ocean side parking lot from December through February and mid-February through May.
- If you want to visit the coast beaches, dunes and Salmon River, continue north on Highway 1. There are a number of access roads leading off Highway 1 to the beaches. Jenner is 17 miles north, and is part of the Russian River Day Trip. For now, double back on Highway 1 to Highway 12 and continue on the blue-line route on this Sonoma coast map.)
- Return east on Highway 12 and turn left on Bohemian Highway. Wild Flour Bread bakery is immediately on your left after the turn, a locals' favorite. Sample wood-fired breads. Take a break with fresh fruit scones and mega-biscotti.
- Just ahead is the tiny village of Freestone, the Osmosis spa, and Wishing Well Nursery.
- Continue for 4 miles to the quaint town of Occidental.
- Continue on beyond town to Graton Road, and turn right, east. Stop for wine tasting at Marimar Torres winery.
- Continue on to the little town of Graton and enjoy the delightful shops, local artists’ gallery, country market and eateries. Take time to stroll the path through the vineyards. In the late summer pick blackberries along the backroads.
- Drive east up the hill out of Graton to Gravenstein Highway and turn right onto Highway 116/Gravenstein Highway. When you get to the intersection with Occidental Road, you can turn either way to do some more wine tasting.

Or to reach the Taft Street winery, turn right on Occidental Road and at Barlow Lane turn left.
- To go to the Hanna winery turn left on Occidental Road and enjoy a beautiful drive that crosses the Santa Rosa Laguna.
- When you are finished wine-tasting, go back to Highway 116/Gravenstein Highway and turn south and finish this
