Russian River Map and Day-Trip Guide for the Northern Sonoma Coast
Like all of the Sonoma Backroads and Byways day-trip maps and guides, this Russian River map yellow route is not just about the destinations, but the experience of the journey itself. It allows you to explore the natural beauty and historical sites of this area, along with visiting many wineries. Tasting room hours and tours are subject to change. If the hours of operation of a particular winery are important to you, contact the winery before visiting. If you plan to picnic today, pick up your supplies before you start the trip on the Russian River map, as there are no markets along Westside Road.
Start the orange route on the Russian River map from central Healdsburg on Westside Road. It turns south and will take you through my favorite County backroad, providing picture perfect vineyard vistas, historic buildings, and charming wineries nestled in lush gardens on the hillsides.
- Mill Creek, 1401 Westside Road (707) 431-2121, a delightful start on the Russian River map trip, sits in a pretty rustic setting. An old waterwheel and pond next to the tasting room lead visitors into a pleasant picnic ground. The tasting room is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Armida Winery, 2201 Westside Road (707) 433-2222. Tasting room open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fabulous view from the picnic grounds and terrific bocce ball court.
- Turn right on Felta Lane and go to Forman Lane. De La Montanya Winery, 999 Foreman Lane. Tasting Room is open Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can also call (707) 433-3711 any time for a personal appointment.

- Davis Bynum Winery, 8057 Westside Road (800) 826-1073 (707) 433-5852. Charming location nestled in the hills. Lovely picnic area, and rustic tasting room, featuring local art and a hospitable staff.
- Porter Creek, 8735 Westside Road (707) 433-6321, a small winery situated in a peaceful pastoral setting. The tasting room is housed in a rustic old farm building located just past the house on the right side of the parking lot. Open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- On the Russian River map note where Wohler Road meets Westside Road. Take a detour just to the old bridge and enjoy the view of the Russian River below. On the other side of the bridge, turn around at a safe spot with visibility both ways as this road has blind curves and the breathtaking views are a distraction for drivers!
- Gary Farrell Wines, 10701 Westside Road (707) 473-2900. Tasting by appointment only.
- Continue on Westside Road to River Road. Turn right on River Road.
Korbel Winery, 13250 River Road, Guerneville (707) 824-7000. Beautiful vineyards on the Russian River. Tours of the winery and complimentary champagne tasting. Korbel Delicatessen features gourmet items. Take the Korbel Rose Garden Tour. - Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve is noted on the Russian River map just north of the town of Guerneville. Even if you don't want to take the time to hike, don't miss the awesome experience of walking a short way into the park beneath these majestic trees.
- The river valley will open up where Highway 116 meets up with Highway 1. Here you can easily get to
state beach parks shown on the Russian River Map,
Goat Rock and Shell Beach (great tidepooling). Observe the seals on the sandy bar where the river opens into the Pacific. To protect the seals (and the dogs!) no dogs are allowed. Caution: Look out for “sneaker waves” that rush up to the parking area and can sweep hikers from the rocks.
- Visit the tiny seacoast town of Jenner. Browse the small cluster of interesting shops and stop at the Visitors Center staffed by the Stewards of Slavianka.
- Fort Ross State Historic
Park.
- Salt Point State Park.
- Kruse Rhododendron State Reserve.
- Scenic rural country drive along Seaview Road and Meyers Grade Road, which will meet up with Highway 1 above Jenner. South of Jenner turn east onto Highway 116 and follow the Russian River map along the river on your return trip. You'll have very different photo opps from this direction! If you have time, consider stopping at one of the sandy beaches along the river and cooling off./li>
The Russian River map parallels the river as far east as Steelhead Beach Regional Park, where the river bends north towards Healdsburg. - Villa Pompei Vineyards, 5700 River Road, Santa Rosa (707) 545-5899 is the next winery on the Russian River map. The tasting room open 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
- Joseph Swan Vineyards, Old Trenton Road, Forestville (707) 573-3747. From River Road turn right on Trenton Road, and bear left onto Old Trenton Road. Tasting room open Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm as well as by appointment on Mondays and Fridays.
- Martinelli Winery, 3360 River Road, Windsor (707) 525-0570, (800) 346-1627. Yes, it’s the same Martinelli of apple juice fame. Taste wines and gourmet food items and browse the enjoyable gift shop in the historic hop barn. Open daily 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Continue straight and turn into the next driveway at J Vineyards, 11447 Old Redwood Highway (707) 431-3646. Bear left and follow the driveway to the trellis-covered walkway. This modern, upscale winery produces champagne, wines, dessert wine and pear liquor. The modern Visitor Center is open daily from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and offers a variety of tastings and delectable food pairings menus. - Rodney Strong, 11455 Old Redwood Hwy, Healdsburg (707) 431-1533 (800) 678-4763.
